Awards give your business a boost

TIME is running out to be a contender in this year's Northern Star Lismore Business Excellence Awards with nominations closing this Friday.

The awards aim to encourage and celebrate creativity, professionalism and innovation of local businesses and to provide a benchmark for best practice within the local business community.

Last year's joint winners of the Business of the Year Award were Sharon Poles' Star Court Arcade store Little Polli and the Blackbird, together with Simon Pagotto's Trattoria Pagotto.

Ms Poles' also took out the hotly contested retail award and Mr Pagotto's Italian restaurant in Keen St took out the Food and Beverage Award as well.

"I guess it reaffirmed we were on the right track. It's was a great accolade for what we are doing," said Ms Poles.

"The awareness the award raised about the business has kept building through out the year.

"There isn't a week goes by without someone mentioning our win."

The chairman of Lismore Chamber of Commerce, David Martin, encouraged other local business owners to enter the awards.

"It is an opportunity to focus on your business in a structured way and identify your core strengths and competitive advantages as well as areas that may benefit from more focus in the future," he said.

"The entry process is straight forward, most successful enterprises have a business plan and much of this detail can be used for your entry.

Businesses can enter in a variety of categories including New Business of the Year, Retail Business of the Year, Home Based Business of the Year, Industrial and Manufacturing Business of the Year, Technology Business of the Year, People's Choice Award and Business of the Year.

Mr Martin also acknowledged the role of all the sponsors.

"A big thank you must go to Tursa, TAFE, Essential Energy, Thomas Nobel & Russell, The Northern Star/Echo, Not Just Business Cards, The New Camera House, ACE, Gateway Motel Lismore, Summerland Credit Union and NAB," he said.
