Australian punter drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles

GRIDIRON: Australia now has an eighth player in the National Football League, after Ohio State's Cameron Johnston was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent.

The Geelong product was a standout for the Buckeyes during his four years at Columbus, averaging 44.9 yards per punt and a career high 46.7 in his Senior Year, finishing as a finalist for the Ray Guy Award.

"Excited for the opportunity to sign with the Eagles! Looking forward to getting to Philadelphia to compete and learn," Johnston tweeted.

The latest arrival to the NFL from the Prokick Australia pipeline, Johnston will battle incumbent Eagles punter Donnie Jones in camp, who's coming of a 2016 season in which he ranked 24th in punts inside the 20.

The Australian accent will be a familiar one for Eagles coaching staff with Sav Rocca, Mat McBriar and Brad Wing all spending time at the Eagles in recent years.
