Australian MH17 victim found wearing oxygen mask
AN AUSTRALIAN passenger aboard MH17 found to have been wearing an oxygen mask is prompting questions about whether those on board had a warning before the jet exploded in mid air.
Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans told a Dutch talk show: "They did not see the missile coming' but you know that someone was found with an oxygen mask over their mouth?
"So they had time to do that."
The Dutch Public Prosecuter has confirmed the minister's account, according to CNN.
"The mask was attached around the victim's neck with an elastic strap.
"The Netherlands Forensic Institute examined the mask for fingerprints, saliva and DNA, but the results were inconclusive," the prosecutor's office said in a statement on Thursday.
"It is not known how and at what point the mask came to be around the victim's neck.
"The passenger's relatives were informed at the time.
"None of the other victims recovered were found to be wearing oxygen masks."
The Foreign Minister has since said he regrets revealing the information, because it risked worsening the suffering of the victims' families.
