Australian IS fighter jailed trying to flee Syria

THE Australian Islamic State fighter who posted pictures online of his young son holding a severed head might have been jailed by the terrorist group while trying to flee Syria. 

Khaled Sharrouf's mother-in-law told counter-terrorism officials of his imprisonment after returning from an attempt to bring back her grandchildren, according to News Corp.

Attorney-General George Brandis confirmed the government was aware of the claim.

In 2009, Sharrouf was jailed for nearly four years over a 2005 plan to carry out terror attacks in Australia.
