Aussies gear up for hockey Cup

THE Kookaburras and Hockeyroos warmed up for next week's Oceania Cup in style with big wins in Perth on Tuesday night.

The Kookaburras thumped Argentina 8-1 while the women had a 3-0 success over Canada.

Ashleigh Nelson (2) and Brooke Peris, who scored her first goal for Australia, were on target for the Hockeyroos, while Jason Wilson scored a double for the Kookaburras with the other goals coming from Liam De Young, Eddie Ockenden, Simon Orchard, Jamie Dwyer, Chris Ciriello, Russell Ford.

Stand-in Kookaburras coach Graham Reid, who is in charge of the team while Ric Charlesworth has hip surgery, said there was plenty to work on ahead of tonight's game with Pakistan.

"We took most of the opportunities that came our way in the first half but the second half was a bit disappointing," he said.

"We were a little sloppy and that's when they got through us a few times. That's the part we'll be working on."

The Hockeyroos were in action against Canada again in Perth overnight.
