THE countdown is on and with less than 100 days to go until Casino's annual Beef Week festival, the 2013 theme has been chosen and "Aussie Icons" it is.

The organisers have hit the ground running with plans well under way for an exciting program of events and experiences for the festival, which runs from May 18 to 28.

And now they have a very patriotic theme to go with it, Casino Beef Week promotions committee president Stuart George said.

"How we've (chosen the theme in the) last couple of years is we've put it out there on our Facebook page for the locals to give feedback," he said.

"We put it out there early February and it was suggested, we took it to a meeting, it was voted on, and Aussie Icons was in."

"It should be interesting to see what people come up with, and it'll give the kids an opportunity to get involved and think about what an Aussie Icon means to them."

Entertainer and Casino local, Brenda Armfield, has been involved in Beef Week going on 25 years, and this year will be around the 20th time she's taken her mini Moke in the official parade.

She's the first to admit she's pretty passionate about Beef Week.

"You're promoting the town, you're promoting business and you're promoting Beef Week. You're also promoting the people of Casino and welcoming visitors to the town," Mrs Armfield said.

"I love doing it, I love the faces, I love seeing the children - I just love people, I really do. I just love doing it for the township."

She said she's excited about this year's theme.

"I think it's a fantastic theme. I'll probably go as Johnny O'Keefe or something!"
