Aussie selectors note: a team to watch

JUNIOR cricket in Byron Bay has been further boosted by the "extraordinary" efforts of one of the town's sides.

The under-12s capped their undefeated run through this season's Ballina District Junior Cricket Association season with a clinical grand final triumph.

Victory over battling opponents Tintenbar-East Ballina secured back-to-back season wins for Ross Burvill's talented side.

Coach Burvill said he was delighted with his team's efforts in the rain-hampered campaign and hoped it would provide a shot in the arm for the town's cricket scene.

"It was a great effort," he said.

"Cricket is not as popular as it was in Byron. There is a lot of competition for sports and it is a struggle to get numbers.

"The club is trying to bring juniors through and not bring players in.

"I am delighted with them."

The Burvill-coached team's toughest opponent during their undefeated season was the wet weather, which washed out a handful of rounds.

They maintained the standard through to the grand final, knocking off Tintenbar-East Ballina by eight wickets.

Burvill said he was "stoked" by the efforts of his players and said they had earned their success.

"The grand final was awesome," he said. "It was a faultless display.

"To go through the season undefeated was an extraordinary effort.

"I couldn't have asked for much more commitment from them this year.

"I cannot speak highly enough of them."

Burvill also thanked the players' parents and everyone who had helped the squad this year.

Cudgen took the under-14 event, with Lennox Head securing the under-16 title.
