Aussie Day Weekend BBQs raise funds for emergency services

BUNNINGS will host Aussie Day Weekend Fundraiser barbecues at its Lismore, Ballina and Byron Bay stores this weekend to raise funds for local volunteer firefighters and emergency services.

The barbecues will be held this Saturday and will help support the Rural Fire Service (RFS) and NSW State Emergency Service (SES).

At the event from 9am to 4pm, team members will be running sausage sizzles with support from volunteers.

Donations will be accepted on the day, and every cent raised goes to the RFS and SES.

There will be family activities, games and entertainment.

NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the fundraiser was an excellent way for communities to show appreciation for its volunteers.

"Every day our 74,000 members are working to help protect the community from bush fires, and this Australia Day will be no different," he said.

"I'd like to thank Bunnings and their customers for supporting our volunteers in their important work."
