Aunty set to deliver TV gems

OUR TV landscape would be much poorer, and bland, without the ABC.

Thanks to Aunty's commitment to Australian content and stories, there are some exciting and unconventional new shows on the horizon.

The national broadcaster unveiled its major shows for 2016 in Sydney this week, and there are some crackers.

There are too many shows to name here, so I'm going to focus on the ABC's promising comedy slate.

In what I believe is a major coup, the ABC has secured the exclusive rights to the viral YouTube hit The Katering Show.

Season two of the parody cooking show starring funny women Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney will air on iView and continue to take the piss out of the latest food trends.

If you're not familiar with The Katering Show, do yourself a favour and check it out on YouTube.

The ABC is also a great platform for emerging artists and actors, and next year will be a big one for Tasmanian comedian Luke McGregor.

The Utopia actor will star in two new shows: Rosehaven with Celia Pacquola and Luke Warm Sex.

Luke Warm Sex will see the Raw Comedy finalist address his personal awkwardness about sex in a series of hilarious looking challenges.

I will admit I wasn't very familiar with McGregor but after laughing my head off at the trailer for Luke Warm Sex I can't wait to see it.

Another sweet-looking show airing next year is the observational documentary series Hatch, Match and Dispatch, which sees cameras go inside the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

One show that's sure to offend as much as it makes viewers laugh is Dafuq?, a hipster parody on Vice.

The digital-first iView series stars Western Australia's up and coming viral stars Mad Kids as three self-important wannabe journalists who have a knack for making any story about themselves.
