Family lines up for the army

ALISON Bonner is happy to talk about her children's career choices.

After all, the four of them have joined the Army.

"It's something they all really wanted to do," the proud Hervey Bay mother said.

"Three of them had joined the army a while ago and my youngest son, Darren, recently signed up as well."

Mrs Bonner said twins Shane and Nicholas, 29, Lauren, 22, and Darren, 18, were all "incredibly patriotic".

"Each of them wanted to join the army on their own merit.

"I'm really proud to have them all serving."

All of her children have seen a fair share of travel in their jobs, Mrs Bonner said.

"Three of my children are based in Australia.

"But Nick is currently serving in Kabul in Afghanistan.

"He and his twin Shane have been all around the world serving in Iraq, East Timor and Afghanistan."

While both of her twin sons have been serving in the army for several years, Mrs Bonner said they were never allowed to serve together.

"Individually they have both served in the same places, but never together because they were related," she said.

"When they joined the army they were told they would never serve together because they were brothers, but they love it nevertheless."

Though Mrs Bonner may have "all of her eggs in one basket", she is confident that her children are well taken care of.

"I do worry about them sometimes, but all mothers do," she said.

"But I know they will keep themselves safe.

"I'm just really happy to know that they are doing something that they love."
