Athlete breaks traditional body building stereotype

We have all seen them.

Individuals that spend their entire life in the gym meticulously counting calories and balancing and isolating every muscle fibre in their body, working it to perfection.

Gympie body builder Mac Hosking is in the final stages of his preparation for this weekend's International Natural Body Building Association Brisbane Classic.

The event will see competitors from all over show their form on stage with Hosking quietly confident he has what it takes.

"I have always been an outdoor person," Hosking said.

"I started in body building after a health scare 15 years ago and it just progressed from there.

"You would see guys of a similar age group competing and you would think to yourself, if they can do it, I can do it."

Hosking will compete in the men's masters division, initially in the 60 years and over category but he is also eligible to compete in the over 50 category and under 72kg category.

The Gympie athlete acknowledged that competition will be tough but is remaining "quietly confident" before taking the stage this weekend.

Hosking is also the founder of the Gympie Muscle Muster.
