The Aston Martin Rapide S
MY blog this week is on the absolutely stunning 2014 Aston Martin Rapide S, spotted in the back streets of Los Angeles.
As you may or may not already know, the Rapide S is an updated version of the original Rapide, which first came to life in 2010.
This particular Aston is equipped with a 6.0-litre, 48-valve V12 engine sitting under that huge bonnet. It produces 410 kW @ 6750rpm and 620Nm of torque @ 5500rpm.
This is a considerable increase in power considering the previous Rapide 'only' produced 350 kW.
All this power gets transferred to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission with shifting paddles on the steering wheel for manual control.
With a kerb weight of 1990kg it is around 50kg heavier than the BMW F10 M5, and around 48kg heavier than Mercedes' new S63 AMG.
Despite the enhanced power over the non-S Rapide, the Rapide S has cut its CO2 emissions by 23g/km for a total of 332g/km.
The Rapide S hits 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, and will keep accelerating until it reaches a top of 306km/h.
As I stated before, this Aston Martin Rapide S is the updated version of the old Rapide. When you first see the S model, the first thing you notice is the new huge grill, much like a Peugeots!
Then when you walk around to the rear, you will see the new deck lid spoiler moulded into the rear boot lid.
Other features that are equipped on this particular Aston Martin include custom 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance tyres, speed sensitive wipers, 4-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, xenon headlights, electronic brake force distribution and emergency braking assist, an engine immobilizer, a premium leather interior with front sport seats, an electrochromatic rear view mirror, Bang & Olufsen speakers, satellite navigation and much more!
You can currently purchase an Aston Martin Rapide S in Australia for around $380,000 before on-roads.
