New Star Wars film is awakening the nerd within

AS HE fights the minions of the Empire in the newly released Star Wars Battlefront, YamCom owner Rob Becker says there's never been a better time to be a Star Wars nerd.

After all, shortly in cinemas close by, The Force Awakens.

"It's absolute nerd heaven, and I'm now at an age where I'm happy to embrace that," the computer store owner said.

The movie is due to open on Thursday and Mr Becker will be front and centre at the midnight screening to see the JJ Abrams-directed sequel.

"The movies hold a special place in my heart," he said.

"Empire Strikes Back was the very first movie I ever saw at the cinema, and I was a goner from there."

And looking around his Yamba shop at some of the Star Wars paraphernalia, it's obvious the obsession goes beyond the big screen for him and many others.

"I think that the fans are coming out of the woodwork," he said.

"I'm expecting to see some people turn up in costume - a few dressing gowns and lightsabers at least."
