Art In this Street in Byron Bay

WITH a new shop as well as their existing home and studio on Jonson St in Byron Bay, artist David Bromley and his partner Yuge Yu have embraced the North Coast lifestyle.

Bromley is one of Australia's most recognised and prolific artists and the new shop In This Street opened in June this year.

"We didn't set out to open a shop but found a really great space in this street and that's how the name occurred," said Ms Yu. "The shop is a melting pot really, part gallery and part boutique."

As well as Mr Bromley's distinctive and wildly popular paintings, the shop also stocks work by other artists, sculptural work from Africa, collectables, clothing, accessories and other design related products.

"Living creatively and being fascinated by all aspects of creativity from home, furniture, spaces, film and music has always been David's passion," said Ms Yu. "Many of David's heroes like Andy Warhol and Julian Schnabel have over time crossed many different mediums.

"The shop is really an extension of our home and how we live."

Ms Yu practised as a criminal lawyer up until three years ago and briefly considered opening a legal practice here but has instead opted for a fashion career. A range of her clothing is stocked at In This Street along with Mr Bromley's designs.

The couple's home and studio are just down the road in Jonson St. The home is now on the market, with the couple planning to move to semi-rural acreage just outside Byron Bay.
