Arrest uncovers trove of drugs, weapons in stolen ute

A SERIAL criminal out on parole was tasered to the ground after he sculled a mystery liquid and fought police as they arrested him for driving a stolen vehicle.

A "proactive member of the public" was the beginning of Hayden Culley Price Maslen's undoing when, concerned by his driving, they followed him to a Golden Beach address and called police.

Checks discovered the Holden ute had a pair of homemade number plates attached, and had been stolen more than two weeks earlier from a Tinbeerwah home.

Police would later discover a bag inside the vehicle which contained documents identifying the defendant alongside a Breaka bottle with 60ml of the drug GHB, a pair of knuckle dusters and a pocket knife.

Price Maslen pleaded guilty to seven driving, drug and weapons-related charges in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday, just hours after he was handed a two-month prison sentence for unrelated drug charges in the District Court.

The Magistrates Court heard when police found Price Maslen hiding in a yard on June 22, he reached into a bag and drank an unknown liquid from a glass vile before he resisted arrest.

Scared for their safety given Price Maslen's size and behaviour, police tasered him to the ground and handcuffed him.

Once at the Caloundra police station, they discovered a vile with an unnamed substance between his buttock cheeks.

The court heard on March 2, Price Maslen had received a 12-month prison sentence with immediate parole for similar driving offences, and that his "dreadful criminal history" was riddled with drug charges.

For his latest crimes, he received concurrent six, three and one month prison sentences cumulative to his activated prison sentence from March 2, effectively extending his full-time discharge date to August 28 next year.
