Armed thieves grab cash

POLICE are on the hunt for two men who held up a pub in West Ballina Sunday night armed with an axe and a crowbar.

At about 10:05pm, the two offenders entered the West Tower Tavern on the Pacific Highway after all the patrons had left and the staff were closing up.

Armed with an axe and a crowbar, the offenders threatened staff and demanded cash.

The terrified staff had their hands tied together with cable ties before the offenders stole a large amount of cash from the office area.

The armed men fled and were last seen running towards the neighbouring Dan Murphy's bottle shop car park.

The staff activated a panic alarm and called 000.

Police arrived with the dog unit and searched the area but could not find the thieves.

A crime scene was set-up and detectives are investigating.

Anyone with information can phone Ballina Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
