Armed robber hits Casino credit union

IN THE fourth armed robbery on the Northern Rivers in as many days, the Southern Cross Credit Union at Casino was held-up at gunpoint late Monday afternoon.

According to initial reports at about 4.45pm a man entered the credit union on Canterbury St and demanded money from staff.

The initial description circulated to police was of a Caucasian man in his 20's, 170cm tall with pasty white skin.

At the time of the robbery he was wearing a white hoodie with black stripes and carrying a red bag.

Staff of the credit union told police he showed them a black semi-automatic handgun when he demanded the money.

The man's description is similar to that of the man who robbed South Lismore's Station Hotel at gunpoint on Thursday evening.

This was at least the third time the credit union had been robbed according to locals.

Police arrived at the scene within minutes and officers were sent from Lismore to help search for the man.

It was understood that he may be driving a white Holden Commodore with Queensland registration.

Anyone with any information on the armed robbery is urged to call Lismore police on 6626 0599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
