Armed bandits on the run

BRAZEN and dangerous thieves are on the run in a stolen car full of weapons after evading Sunshine Coast police.

One of the men is allegedly known to police for a previous offence involving a sawn-off shotgun.

The men allegedly held a woman at knife-point at Gympie.

They fled, armed with a 10cm-long hunting knife towards the Sunshine Coast, where several police crews were waiting to chase down the stolen car.

Officers were warned the men may be travelling towards Pomona in the stolen white Commodore, with registration 119KYL, about 9.30am.

An unmarked traffic crew conducting a traffic operation near the road spotted the car at "high speed" along Louis Bazzo Dr.

One of men allegedly threatened a 34-year-old woman outside Nolan Meats at East Deep Creek about 8am.

The woman was believed to have been taking smoko to her husband at work and was waiting in the abattoir's car park when the men approached.

Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Greg Davey praised the woman for her actions.

"The men approached the woman in the car and engaged her in conversation to try and coax her from the vehicle," Senior Sergeant Davey said.

"She did the right thing and stayed inside the car until one of the men entered through the passenger side.

"He produced the knife and made threats, which is when the woman got out of the car and they took off."

Snr Sgt Davey said the men were considered dangerous.

"One of the men is known to police for previous offences," he said.

"We ask anyone who spots the car to not approach the men and contact police immediately."

The armed man has been described as about 180cm tall with red hair and freckles.

He was wearing camouflage pants and a black shirt.

The other man was wearing baggy clothes and has shaved brown hair.

Police believe that they may be from the Cooroy-Noosa area.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
