Little Arlo’s got a big tiger tale to tell now

LITTLE Arlo Beale took a walk on the wild side yesterday to meet up with old friends.

The five-year-old from Sunshine Beach first met Australia Zoo tiger cubs Hunter and Clarence five months ago when they made a special visit to the Royal Children's Hospital, where he was being treated for a cancerous kidney tumour.

"We had a couple of fantastic experiences today - the first with Arlo re-meeting the tigers and then they gave us a giraffe experience where we got to hand-feed them," his father, Jesse, said late yesterday afternoon after a day at the zoo.

"Animals are a real different spin - they bring out emotion in kids.

"The day was absolutely sensational. They really did look after us. I can't sing their praises enough."

Both Arlo and the tigers had grown in their time apart, as they discovered when thrilled tiger and conservation manager Giles Clark re-introduced them.

"It was such a joy to see Arlo so happy and healthy, and with such a passion for tigers," Mr Clark said.

Arlo is in remission and, after beating two challenges to his life - the other being a heart condition - will head to Sydney this weekend to meet pop superstar will.i.am.

"Arlo was born a cardiac baby, so when he was diagnosed with cancer in June last year we were both surprised and horrified," Mr Beale said.

"He only just got given his Make-A-Wish (experience) - we head down to Sydney later this week to meet will.i.am.

"He's meeting with him on Sunday and then off to the live show (of The Voice) on Monday."

The opportunity to meet will.i.am came about after Mr Beale and wife Crystal sent footage of Arlo singing his own version of the Black Eyed Peas' hit Imma Be - otherwise known as Arlo B.
