IT’S the home-grown New Years Eve celebrations that’s gaining world-wide notoriety as one of the best parties around. The week-long GLBTI festival is run by over 300 volunteers and is based at the Lismore Showgrounds with satellite events throughout the Lismore CBD. The main events include the CBD street parade, NYE party, pool party and recovery party. The New Year’s Eve party will feature fireworks, three dance halls, cabaret, art exhibitions, chill spaces and licensed bar. The theme this year is Superfreaks. Falls Festival

THIS year’s Falls Festival Byron Bay will be kicking off with its New Year’s Eve celebration Boogie Nights. The festival, now in its third year, draws crowds of up to 10,000. The 2015/16 New Year’s Eve line-up includes satirist “Weird Al” Yankovic who’s known for his musical parodies, Australian electronic dance group Art VS Science, nu-wave brass band Bullhorn, Mexican-American singer-songwriter El Vez, DJ Fleetmac Wood, ARIA award-winning Australian hip-hop group Hilltop Hoods, electronic music duo Peking Duk, English indie rock band The Wombats and American rock band Wavves. NYE is sold out, but tickets to Falls are still available at www.fallsfestival.com.au

New Year’s Eve Family Festival Alstonville

The New Year’s Eve Family Festival at Alstonville is a favourite for families in the Ballina Shire, attracting about 3000 people annually. This year, the Alstonville Agricultural Society has taken over organisation of the festival from the Alstonville Apex Club. The all-weather event starts at the showground at 5pm with fireworks at 9.30pm. As in previous years, the alcohol-free event will have lots of rides for kids, jumping castles, food and live music. Tickets are $2 per person.

Soul Street Byron New Year’s Eve

The heart of Byron will come alive this New Year’s Ever with the family friendly Soul Street event. There will be plenty of local bands, buskers, circus performers, fire twirlers, drummers and acts performing in Railway Park with tonnes of children’s activities. From 4pm until late. Ballina Fireworks

The Ballina RSL Club will be putting on fireworks over the river to bring in the new year. The free fireworks show will take place on the Richmond River. The club will also host its annual NYE Big Gig Comedy Gala Dinner with Steady Eddy upstairs and the NYE Masquerade Party at the RSL Bowling Club. More information at www.ballinarsl.com.au

Evans Head

Hotel Illawong in Evans Head will be hosting local band Inside Outlaw for its New Year’s Eve celebrations. Upstairs and away from the crowds, the hotel is holding an exclusive NYE Party. Tickets are $65 and include a kilo of fresh cooked prawns, breads, salads and a beer or glass of champagne on arrival. Bookings phone 6682 4222.

Lennox Point Hotel

New Year’s Eve at the Lennox Point Hotel will be pumping to the classic rock covers, pub favourites and groovy dance tunes of the Brian Watt Band. The song list includes covers by Fleetwood Mac, Cold Chisel, Paul Kelly, Steve Miiler, Boz Scaggs, Sweet, Beatles, Eagles mixed with a little Motown, Soul and a bunch of One Hit Wonders. From 9.30pm until midnight.
