Deadlocked!

IN WHAT's believed to be a first for Group One Junior Rugby League, Ballina and Marist Brothers Under 13s remained deadlocked 12-all even after their fourth period of extra time in a grand final at the weekend. Coaches Rick Lennon (Marist Brothers) and Alan Johnstone/Debbie Crawford (Ballina) and Group officials each came to the same decision ? joint premiers. The boys received a standing ovation from the big crowd after an outstanding game. Ballina scored first when winger Fred Pitt defused a bomb in his 20m zone and raced the length of the field to score a converted try for a 6-0 half-time lead. In the second half, Ballina's Josh McDonald scored a converted try to give them a 12-0 lead before Marist Brothers hit back with a converted try to Pat Dawson. With a few minutes to go Dean Ryan scored for Marist Brothers and Tom King landed the conversion from wide out to lock the scores up at 12-all. Both teams missed with drop goal opportunities in extra time before then going to three periods of golden point ? still without result. Marist Brothers' Nick Wappett was judged player of the match.
