Workers, Villa future on line

By MARK ROBINSON LISMORE Workers' long and proud history in Football FNC Premier League soccer will be on the line tonight when the Redmen take on first division club Alstonville at Oakes Oval, Lismore, from 7pm.

After finishing in the relegation zone, Workers were given a second chance at premier league survival by Maclean's forced move to the North Coast association, with the one-off clash determining who fills the gap.

Workers disposed of South Lismore, another first division club, 3-1 last week to reach the play-offs final tonight, while Villa breezed through with a controversial forfeit from Tweed Heads.

Workers will be fresh after a week off, but Villa could be a little leg-weary after a torrid 1-0 loss to Thistles in the first division semis just three days ago.

The Redmen will start as firm favourites.

Alstonville finished fourth in the first division and were last in the premier league in 2004. On form, they will struggle to match the Redmen for pace, skill and experience.
