Woman dies after car collides with bus at Nashua

By ANDY PARKS

A 35-YEAR-OLD woman died when her car collided with a bus on the Bangalow Road, near Nashua, yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred at 4.50pm on a bridge over the Wilsons River, just south of the Nashua turn-off.

The woman was driving a white Ford Falcon and is believed to have been heading south when she collided with the bus heading north.

The bus was empty apart from the driver, who was treated at the scene by ambulance officers.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and the Bangalow Road was closed to traffic for several hours, causing major disruption.

The Brunswick Valley Rescue Service and volunteers with the NSW Rural Fire Service were called in to assist at the accident scene.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter took off from Lismore, but was not needed because the woman had died before they arrived on the scene.

Traffic was banked up for almost two kilometres on the Lismore side of the%accident.
