Warrior, but no champion

By STEVE SPINKS

PAT Robinson was on the edge of her chair, but her pet poodle Marshall slept calmly as the horses moved into the barrier.

Having bred Melbourne Cup starter Another Warrior, the Lismore woman could hardly contain her excitement as they lined up for Australia's premier horse race yesterday.

The commentators were ready; Miss Robinson was ready; Marshall couldn't care; and then SKY Channel informed its viewers that the Melbourne Cup would be delayed by three minutes because of broadcast rights.

The fever was palpable, no wonder Miss Robinson had been diagnosed with high blood pressure the day before.

After three minutes of small talk, she finally got to see the Melbourne Cup.

Unfortunately, Another Warrior got stuck at the back of the field and finished sixteenth.

"Sixteenth is all right in that field," she said.

"I never thought he'd win, but I thought he might place."

Miss Robinson was happy, but Marshall was left wondering what all the fuss was about.
