Walkers raise $12,500

BLISTERS and the odd stiff muscle have paid a handsome dividend for Thomas George and his band of merry helpers.

Together they yesterday raised $12,500 for needy Northern Rivers children.

The Member for Lismore decided to get a group of friends together to go on a fundraising walk from the Goonellabah Media Centre to the airport in support of 2LM's Children's Christmas Appeal.

"But I told them it would cost $500 each for the privilege," he said.

"I didn't think I'd get many starters but lots of people raised the funds to join me.

"Their community spirit is just wonderful."

The fundraising walkers included The Northern Star's Nyoli Scobie; Member for Ballina, Don Page; Supt Bruce Lyons, Richmond LAC; Malcolm Marshall, Southern Cross University; Dr Chris Ingall, paediatrician; Rodney Johnson, Beach Buddy Security Boxes; Neil Boyd, Westpac; Barry Edmonds, Farmer Charlies; Brian Grant, George & Fuhrmann Real Estate; Bernie Hauville, Video Ezy; Lisa Lees, Rodney Lees Cabinet Making; Pam Basso and Warwick McDonald, Professionals Real Estate; Trevor Sanders, St Vincent's Hospital. Cr John Chant and Ron Rathborne of TURSA raised the funds but couldn't walk.
