THE Lismore Turf Club was pipped at the post for the second straight year at the recent NSW Country Racing Council awards in Sydney.

The Turf Club was nominated in the most popular feature race meeting category for the massive Lismore Cup day it holds each September.

Grafton Cup day won the award with the Lismore Cup second and the Albury Cup meeting third.

"This is the second year we've been pipped at the post," Lismore Turf Club president Ron Marriott said.

"We came second to Albury last year. It's good to think a club like us can go close and it shows that Lismore loves its Cup day and we run a good event."

There were eight nominations from around the State, with the three finalists selected before the awards night.

"To be a finalist is a good achievement," Marriott said.

The club received a trophy for its efforts and will enter the Lismore Cup in the same category next year.

Who knows, it could be a case of third time lucky.
