Train services derailed

A LETTER from an unknown CountryLink employee claims train services between Sydney and Casino are to be axed. The letter was given to Bill Barwood, of Lachlan Regional Transport, who sent it in to The Northern Star. However, a media spokesperson for State Transport Minister John Watkins said the allegations were not true. Track work is planned for between August and December that will require some services to be replaced by buses temporarily, but this would not affect Casino services, the spokesperson said. She said the claims in the letter were completely unfounded. The letter was leaked to Mr Barwood by someone from CountryLink who did not wish to be identified. ??We??re concerned that country rail services are being axed all over the place,?? Mr Barwood said. ??We believe that the Railcorp budget will always operate in favour of the CityRail network at the expense of CountryLink.?? The letter states the following cuts are expected to affect Northern Rivers rail services: ?? The 11.35am Sydney to Grafton service will be axed ?? The 6.30am Grafton to Sydney service will be axed ?? The 7.15am Sydney to Casino service will terminate at 5.07pm at Grafton ?? The 9.25pm Casino to Sydney service will originate from Grafton at 8.59pm. If this happened, the only service stopping at Casino would be the Brisbane XPT.
