Tough weekend for second-placed paddler
SEVERAL Far North Coast Canoe Club members excelled in the Lismore Kayak Marathon paddled on the Wilsons River.
Tony Curtis of Lismore won the 22.5km open class in a time of 1 hour 40 minutes from his brother Glen, also of Lismore.
Glenn Curtis would have been pretty tired on Sunday night ? the previous day he had pulled a muscle in the Byron Bay Triathlon, in which he was competing for the 10th year.
Mark Yager, of Goonellabah, won the 22.5km Under-18 division, beating some open paddlers home, while his father Paul Yager won the 15km 50-64 years category.
Marion Brownlie won the 50-64 years and Tony White of Casino took out the 65 years plus.
Barbara Davies of Rosebank won the 50-64 years TK1 and Ron Bennett the 65 years plus TK1.
Brent McGeary of Alstonville finished second in the 35-40 years.
Elspeth Berger won the 35-50 years division and Therese Crollick finished third.
