Top boxers heading for Ballina

THE Far North Coast boxing titles at Ballina RSL Club on Saturday night are set to be a highlight of the NSW Australian Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) circuit.

All local clubs will attend ? Casino, Lismore, Kyogle, Ballina, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Murwillumbah and Kingscliff.

Competitors will also come from the Sunshine Coast, Sydney and Newcastle, Gunnedah and Tamworth, and many points in between.

Events of this calibre are usually held in capital cities but with the help of major sponsor Glendowie Carpet One in Clark Street, Ballina, it will be held at a regional venue, giving local boxing fans the chance to see current and future champions going head to head.

With the States having completed Commonwealth Games selection trials, all boxers are keen to stay sharp for Australian team selection.

Strong nominations have been received for the featherweight, welterweight and light heavyweight divisions.

The tournament is being run by the AABA and will conform to International and Olympic standards, giving competing boxers the full experience they need for Australian team selection.

The FNC titles will be held at the Ballina RSL Club with preliminary bouts in the knockout from 1pm to 4pm and the finals from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

Tickets costing $10 for the preliminary bouts and $15 for the finals will be available at the door.
