Tom takes next step

FORMER Lismore batsman Tom Cooper has been named in the Australian team for the Under-19 cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka in February.

Cooper this week made a sparkling run-a-ball 195 for New South Wales against South Australia in the Commonwealth Bank Australian Under-19 carnival in Perth.

NSW won the title for a third year running, narrowly missing an outright win over Victoria in the deciding match.

The Baby Blues finished with 40 points from their seven games, four clear of Victoria (36), followed by Western Australia (22), the ACT (17), SA (15), Tasmania (10), Queensland (9) and the Northern Territory (5).

The Australian Under-19s were presented with their caps by former Test captain Mark Taylor during the tea break on the opening day of the First Test at the WACA Ground.
