Thriller as Swans edge Magpies



THE LISMORE Swans have earned a two-game break on reigning Summerland Australian Football League reigning premiers Byron Bay after a thriller two-point victory at Shultz Oval, Bangalow on Saturday.

Lismore kicked a goal and two behinds in the final two minutes for a nail-biting 15-10 100 to 15-8 98 victory. As a result, Lismore has taken a firm hold on second position on the SAFL ladder, with the undefeated Ballina setting the pace.

On Saturday, the Howard brothers, Paul and Simon, were great across the midfield early for Lismore as the Swans went in at half-time leading by four goals. Byron fought back through Nick Gilbert and Graham Hayworth to only trail at the last change by one goal.

Bomb blast

BALLINA Bombers kept their unbeaten record intact on Saturday at Fripp Oval, Ballina, easily accounting for Casino 21-10 136 to 1-4 10.

Ballina were strong across the park, with captain-coach Brian Walsh. However, Casino took a lot of spirit from the game. They were undermanned with six new players, but the return of Billy Walker Junior boosted them.
