Team makes Lot of space
TINA Petroff believes clearing weeds and rubbish from Lot 107 Shara Boulevard in Ocean Shores is an important community activity.
The Ocean Shores Community Association vice president was one of over 20 people who converged on the block of land yesterday morning armed with mowers and brushcutters to clean up.
"It's very important for bringing everyone together and claiming that piece of land," she said.
"We are clearing a space for our kids to play and for them to understand this space is theirs."
In June, Byron Shire Council voted to sell Lot 107 for inclusion in the Billinudgel Nature Reserve, leaving Ocean Shores residents without sports fields.
Mrs Petroff said the group cleared more space than they had expected.
"Everybody was focussed on what we had to do and we ended up clearing more than we had in mind," she said.
She said a 'Lot 107 Christmas Party' would be held on the block on December 12 with soccer games between local teams.
