Take on the world?s best ... for just ten bucks

By STEVE SPINKS

IF YOU'VE got $10 then you can take on a World Champion.

That's the case if you're a registered bowler this week at the Ballina Bowling Club.

As part of the Ballina Bowls Bonanza's Taylor Invitation Challenge, any registered bowler can head down to the greens tomorrow and Wednesday and take on a number of big name bowlers including world number one, Sydney's Steve Glasson, in the Charity Challenge.

Also ready to take your money are Australian representatives Kelvin Kerkow, Cameron Curtis, Brett Duprez and Shane Globits. Top women bowlers Katrina Wright and Jenny Harragon will also be attending.

A number of Ballina bowlers gathered to talk tactics late last week and the talk was very optimistic.

Club stalwart Val McKenzie reckons she will bluff all the professionals on her home track.

Gary McLean, who has only been bowling for eight months, reckons he's a chance against Glasson.

However, Bob Parkhill believes the only way any trundler will the beat the top dogs is if the game is played late at night, with the lights turned off and no score kept.

All the money raised from the Charity Challenge will go do the Ballina Hospital Cancer Care Haemotology Unit.

The Charity Challenge is just part of the fun during the four-day Bowls Bonanza.
