Steve takes up new role at Northern Star

THE Northern Star's new deputy general manager, Steve Portas, says he's looking forward to a new start at the paper.

For the past six years Steve has been the general manager of a sister APN publication, The Daily Examiner, in Grafton.

"One of the great things about working for APN is being able to move about and try new things," he said.

"I'll be primarily in an operational role at The Star but I'm looking forward to working with our customers, both readers and advertisers."

Steve is a born and bred Queenslander who grew up in Brisbane and received his business degree from QUT. Before moving to Grafton he worked for the sales and marketing arm of APN, Presspak, as a finance and business manager.

He will be moving up with his wife Ma- ria and nine-month-old baby girl Sophia.

APN Regional Manager - Southern Region Steve Bowden welcomed Mr Portas' appointment.

"He brings a depth of experience which will be utilised to improve even further the fast growing newspaper," he said.

"Steve will assume responsibility for the day to day operations and management of The Star and its weekly newspapers."
