Soccer duo aims higher

TWO Lismore high school students have been selected to play in the NSW Combined High School (CHS) soccer side in Sydney later this month.

Both Lismore Workers players in the Soccer FNC competition, Kadina's Joel Gosper and Lismore High's Lucas McPherson were part of the North Coast CHS side that played the State Carnival last month.

On their return, both agreed that it was a top carnival.

Their only let-down was that the North Coast side finished seventh.

Joel was selected in the CHS firsts and Lucas in the seconds.

"Funny enough, we each injured a knee, but we must have impressed the selectors enough to take us both to State All Schools in a few weeks," Joel said.

"Lucas and I play together at Workers so we'll be training together right up until its time to head off. We're pretty stoked; it's a good thing and were loving it."

The boys play against Independent and Private schools at Glenwood, after which the State All School side will be selected to play in Cairns from August 13-19.

The Australian All School side will be chosen after that and, with the opportunity to play in England up for grabs, both 17-year-olds will be out to impress all selectors.
