Skeletal remains identified as Evans man

SKELETAL remains found at Evans Head last month have been identified as those of 80-year-old Alzheimer's sufferer James Errol Lane, who went missing last June.

Casino coroner Niki Valentine said no DNA testing had been carried out, but the body had been identified from the clothing Mr Lane had been wearing at the time of his disappearance, and the fact that his wallet had been found near the body.

There were no suspicious circumstances, she said.

A search was launched for Mr Lane when he failed to return from a morning walk on June 12 last year. The remains were found at Airforce Beach in an area covered by extensive foot searches.

His funeral will be held on Monday in Sydney.
