Sizzling bid secures chef

STEVE SZABO isn't a cheap man.

The Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast executive chef was auctioned off for $8000 at the Our Kids' Black and White Ball on Saturday night at Lismore City Hall.

The top bidder, Michael Frerraro, of the Isle of Capri on the Gold Coast, bought himself dinner for 10 in his own home, prepared by Mr Szabo and his staff.

Mr Frerraro will also receive all the Versace cutlery and crockery used.

Our Kids fundraising co-ordinator Rebekka Battista said more than $30,000 was raised during the night, far exceeding the $20,000 hoped for.

Other auctions included three Mike King-Prime prints that sold for $2800 and a Lismore Fairmarket Antique Centre diamond ring sold for $2000.

Crandon Financial Services with the AMP Foundation matched every dollar raised up to $10,000.

Mrs Battista said the night would not have been possible without the support of sponsors.
