Searchers find body of flood victim

THE body of a woman was yesterday found in floodwaters at Main Arm, near Mullumbimby.

Mullumbimby police and SES searchers located the woman's body at 11.20am.

It is believed the woman may have been travelling in a car washed from a causeway by floodwaters early on Saturday morning.

A report that a car had been washed from the causeway was received by police, but floodwaters prevented them from reaching the area and searching for the occupant of the car.

Police later received information leading them to believe a person had been picked up by a passing motorist near where the car had been washed away.

However, a missing person's report lodged with police on Tuesday sparked a full scale search of the area.

The woman's body was found 1km downstream from where a car was located.

The identity of the woman is yet to be confirmed by police. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
