LISMORE'S Southern Cross University celebrated its 10th birthday in style with a gala concert on Saturday night.

The glittering occasion attracted an audience of hundreds, including guest of honour NSW Governor Marie Bashir, who was awarded an honorary doctorate from the institution.

The crowd was treated to performances by staff, students and members of the community after a reception held by Chancellor John Dowd in the university's Fountain Room.

The master of ceremonies was NORPA artistic director Lyndon Terracini who also sang amidst an eclectic showcase of opera, jazz, choirs and dancers.

An onstage 'fireworks display' marked the end of celebrations, as well as a decade's worth of higher education in the Northern Rivers.
