Rous hoses down water use

By SAMANTHA TURNBULL

HOLD your hoses water restrictions are back in force on the Northern Rivers.

The Rocky Creek Dam yesterday dropped below 60 per cent of its capacity, prompting Rous Water to announce level one restrictions for most of the region.

The restrictions apply in the local government areas of Lismore (excluding Nimbin), Ballina, Byron and Richmond Valley (excluding Casino).

From today, sprinklers and fixed hoses can be used only on lawns every second day, between 6am and10am and 3pm and 7pm, on odd or even days matching your property number.

All hoses must be also fitted with on/off nozzles; and driveways, paved areas and roofs may only be washed for health or safety reasons using a bucket.

Emptying of outdoor spas and pools is banned.

Rous Water general manager Paul Muldoon urged residents to conserve water over the coming weeks to avoid restrictions being upgraded to level two.

The restrictions will be upgraded if the dam falls below 50 per cent of its capacity.
