Ring of fires causing smoky sky

By Luke Prendergast

LISMORE skies were hazy and Kyogle residents reported conditions of extremely low visibility yesterday as southerly winds blew smoke from Clarence Valley bushfires, joining smoke from fires in Lismore, Kyogle and Richmond Valley.

A Rural Fire Service spokesman said a series of fires had been burning for several days. All were contained and patrolled and had been subjected to direct!attacks from aircraft.

Grass fires in Kyogle and Swan Bay were also reported and controlled yesterday.

Several class three (major) bushfires were being patrolled in the Kyogle area, covering almost 1500ha.

There were 27 fires reported to be burning in the Clarence Valley yesterday.
