Rain, rain keep away ... we want to play cricket

WHILE most cricket around the region has been washed out, the Ballina Under 13 Cricket Carnival has defied the wet weather.

After losing Monday to the rain, the 12 competing teams managed to play a full day yesterday despite some suspect showers.

Unfortunately, all the local sides went down in their opening match.

Lismore went down to Newcastle by five wickets, Ballina lost by three wickets to Mid North Coast despite a fighting 31 by Will Nolan, and the Far North Coast Aboriginal Development team were knocked over by nine wickets by Toowoomba.

Teams from Sydney and Brisbane are contesting the carnival.

The washout on Monday led the teams to have an informal day of indoor cricket at the Ballina Sports Centre. Play continues until Friday.
