Racing towards a big Friday Cup

IF the number of nominations received for Friday's Professional Investment Services Christmas Cup are any indication, the Lismore Turf Club is in for a bumper day, according to secretary-manager Michael Timbrell.

"We have received 140 nominations for the eight-race program. The only other day during that receives numbers like this is Lismore Cup Day, and we all know the size of the crowd on that day," he said.

"People have been booking tables in the grandstand, and the interest from the general public has been fantastic. What better way to get your Christmas holidays off to a flying start than with a day at the races."

The club is offering a lucky door prize draw on Friday of a special XXXX Gold Esky full of the sponsor's product, plus Christmas ham raffles.

Despite the large overall numbers of horses, nominations for three races have been extended until 10am today ... the $7,000 Open Handicap (1100m), the $7,000 Class 4 Handicap (1516m) and the $7,000 Class 3 Handicap (2000m).

"Even though the system that runs Country racing has allowed for three races to be extended, the only race that is of any concern is the Class 3 (2000m), which has attracted only eight nominations," Timbrell said.

The club can be contacted on 6621 3176 or 0407 213100.
