Pub venue for Ballina fights

THE Ballina Island Amateur Boxing Club is holding an amateur tournament at Paddy McGinty's Pub in River Street, Ballina, on Saturday night.

The main feature is a NSW title bout between 21-year-olds Billy Magnay, of Ballina, and Steve Ryan, of Gunnedah, for the senior light welterweight (63.5kg) title.

Magnay is a former State schoolboy champion with 16 bouts for 13 wins (most of them knockouts) to his credit.

Coorey is a former Northern NSW Intermediate (Under-19) champion, while Reidy is Sydney's top welterweight.

There will be a 10-bout undercard, with boxers from other district clubs, Western NSW and Queensland.

The event is sanctioned by the NSW Amateur Boxing League and the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation.
