Price hike likely on Rex fares

By SAMANTHA TURNBULL

REX airlines passengers between Sydney and Lismore could be slugged an extra $11 on ticket prices.

The Lismore City Council will vote tomorrow on exactly how high the price hike will be.

Business and enterprise group manager, Craig Kelly, has prepared a report for the council which says the increase would result from the re-introduction of landing charges on certain ticket classes.

The council resolved to develop a partnership with REX last year, which saw it forgo landing fess for the airline's 'every day low fares'.

The partnership is now up for review and council staff have recommended the fees be re-introduced at a cost of up to $11 per passenger.

The recommendation comes despite an annual average increase of 15,000 passengers.

However, the report says that jump was not enough and the Lismore Airport revenue budget is still $20,000 behind its September forecast.

"We knew this deal couldn't last forever," Rex regional manager, Maurice Gahan, said. "The council has been very supportive of Rex and whatever they decide will be acceptable to us."
