Pie lovers, eat your heart out

IT TAKES only one meat pie to fill up Joanne Pethers.

Which is why she won't be entering herself in Kyogle's Red Hot Sale Pie Eating Competition tomorrow.

The owner of Kyogle Bakery says that last year 15 contestants gobbled down 150 meat pies, and suspects it will be more this year.

"We're serving the pies lukewarm so they're easy to eat. To win you have to be first to finish five meat pies," she said.

Kyogle IGA manager Marcel Little said a $100 cash prize was up for grabs, not to mention the title.

"Last year the winner kept eating and finished seven meat pies in about two minutes," he said.

Mr Little said the competition was part of the town's annual Red Hot Sale day, when almost every business in Kyogle slashes their prices for the day.

Owner of Tom's Music Shop, Tom Rogers, said the CWA Craft Expo and performances from the Krinkl Theatre Company puppeteers could also be found in the main street tomorrow.
