People of Ballina its greatest asset

A RECORD crowd watched Australian netball captain Liz Ellis arrive by a surf life rescue boat to Ballina's Fawcett Park Australia Day celebrations.

About 500 people munched on damper and Vegemite supplied free by the Ballina Scope Club while the Australia Day ambassador was ceremo- nially greeted.

The 32-year-old recalled the generosity of Ballina when she arrived in the town at the end of a long charity walk.

"Look after the environment and the people," said the frequent visitor to the town.

"The people are Ballina's greatest asset."
