Passengers will be offered refunds

SEVERAL hundred passengers who have booked flights to Sydney from Ballina-Byron airport with QantasLink will be offered a full refund if suitable alternative flight arrangements can't be made.
QantasLink will cease to operate its three return daily flights between Ballina and Sydney from July 12.
These will be replaced by a single Jetstar service leaving Sydney for Ballina at 9.50am and returning at 11.40am. Previously flights left Sydney at 7am, 2.20pm and 6.25pm and returned from Ballina at 6.30am, 9am and 4.20pm.
A spokesperson for Qantas said all affected passengers were being contacted to help them organise alternative flights, which may be with other carriers.
Virgin Blue also has only one flight a day out of Ballina at 1.50pm, arriving in Sydney at 3.10pm.
REX Airlines offers eight flights daily between Lismore and Sydney.
These leave Lismore at 6.50am, 8.55am, 10.55am and 5pm and leave Sydney at 7am, 9am, 3.05pm and 6.40pm.
Qantas had last night stopped offering fares between Ballina and Sydney on its website, directing passengers to the Jetstar website, www.jetstar.com.
Virgin has offered to match Jetstar's introductory $28 fares, offering the same price from July 12.
