Olympic kayak champion ordered to trial

BYRON BAY Olympic kayaker Nathan Baggaley has been committed to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court on drug charges.

The 31-year-old three-time world champion and dual Olympian appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday on seven drug charges, including supply and possession of ecstasy, marijuana and amphetamines.

He pleaded not guilty.

In February, Baggaley and co-accused, Kane Thomas Battese, 19, were stopped near their Gold Coast homes by detectives for speeding.

A search of the car allegedly found almost 800 ecstasy pills, $1000 in cash and a quantity of marijuana. AAP
