NSW rep reaps rewards

By STEVE SPINKS

TANYN Lyndon was the toast of the Lennox Head-Alstonville Surf Life Saving Club recently when he returned from the Interstate Championships in Sydney with one gold and one silver medal from three events.

The 13-year-old was one of only three competitors selected to represent NSW in the event ? which are basically the Australian Junior Championships ? from outside the metropolitan area.

And he rewarded the selectors faith.

Tanyn won the the board rescue with Adam Crerar from Freshwater and picked up a silver in the ironman.

He finished fifth in his only other event, the swim.

"Tanyn had a great time being part of the NSW team," his father Brian Lyndon said.

"He is now in training for the NSW Championships which are to be held at Ocean Beach, Umina, on the Central Coast at the end of February."

At the completion of the junior competition, NSW led Queensland by seven points on the standings.

Following on from the juniors, the seniors took to the water with Queensland fielding a very strong team, including Zane Holmes, Shannon Eckstein, Kristy Munroe and Kristy Cameron.

The Queensland team managed to turn the tables on NSW, but due to the juniors outstanding lead, NSW were announced Interstate Champions when the juniors and seniors points were combined.

Tanyn's performance in Sydney came hot on the heels of an impressive NSW Country Championship in Pambula only three days before.

The pint-sized rocket claimed silver in the Under-14 board relay, silver in the Under-13 board relay, bronze in the swim and bronze in the ironman.

A team of nine other lifesavers from Lennox joined Lyndon for the massive trip south.

In the end the team collected nine gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
